Southampton Premium Bonds Winners Revealed for August 2026

Fourteen Southampton citizens have emerged winners in the Premium Bonds draw held in August 2026 and earned themselves a whopping £440,000 as a result. NS&I have made an announcement about the results, and Southampton has had an excellent month.

This £440,000 has been achieved by fourteen people winning in four different prize categories. No one has won the million pounds this time, but someone has taken away the hundred thousand pounds. This is something too!

The Southampton Winners, Prize by Prize

The biggest local prize this month was £100,000, claimed by the holder of bond 594ZW092527. That saver had £45,000 invested and purchased the winning bond in September 2024. Less than two years in the scheme, and they have just received the second-largest prize NS&I hands out each month.

Three more Southampton holders won £50,000 each:

Bond Number Total Holding Date Purchased
256CJ244922 £50,000 September 2015
330XT845047 £41,600 May 2018
658NW570066 £30,050 January 2026

The third one on that list deserves a proper look. Bond 658NW570066 was bought in January 2026, just seven months ago. The holder had £30,050 invested and they have already seen £50,000 back. That is the unpredictable nature of Premium Bonds in one row of a table.

Six Southampton savers won £25,000 each, and another four took home £10,000 apiece. Here is the full breakdown for the city:

Prize Number of Winners Total Won
£100,000 1 £100,000
£50,000 3 £150,000
£25,000 6 £150,000
£10,000 4 £40,000
Total 14 £440,000

The National Picture This Month

Nationally, two savers won the top prize of £1 million each. The jackpots went to holders in Kent and Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The Kent winner held £21,000 in Premium Bonds. Their winning bond, numbered 664BF890888, was purchased in February 2026.

Six months between buying a bond and receiving a call from NS&I’s Agent Million. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight winner had been in the scheme since March 2022, holding £49,850, just £150 short of the maximum allowed investment of £50,000.

The story that caught most people’s attention this month, though, came from Tyne and Wear. A saver there held just £650 worth of bonds and won £100,000. The winning bond had been bought in March 2026. Five months old.

That result is a straightforward reminder of how NS&I’s draw system works: ERNIE, the Electronic Random Number Indicator Equipment that selects winners each month, gives every single £1 bond the same chance. A £650 holding and a £50,000 holding go into the same draw on equal footing.

The current odds of winning any prize are 22,000 to one, and the prize fund rate sits at 3.8%. Every prize is free of UK income tax and capital gains tax. If you are thinking about where a windfall fits within your broader tax planning arrangements, that tax-free status is worth factoring in properly.

How to Check If You Have Won

NS&I visits the two jackpot winners in person through Agent Million. For all other prize tiers, results from the August draw are available to check from today, 4 August 2026.

You can check your results through the NS&I Prize Checker app, directly on the NS&I website, or by asking Alexa. You will need your NS&I holder number or your bond number. The app also shows any prizes you have won in the previous six draws and flags any older unclaimed prizes sitting in your account.

Prizes in Premium Bonds do not expire. NS&I has paid out prizes going back to the very first draw in June 1957, and any unclaimed prize from any year remains available to collect. If you have not checked your account recently, it is worth a few minutes.

Thinking Beyond the Win

Premium Bonds are not a conventional savings product. There is no guaranteed return, and in any given month most bondholders receive nothing. What they offer instead is the possibility of a substantial, completely tax-free payment, backed fully by HM Treasury, with no risk to the original capital at all.

For most people, a win at the lower end of the scale, say £25,000 or £50,000, is straightforward to deal with. For a larger prize, the financial picture gets more interesting. A £100,000 payment landing in your account changes your savings position, your potential inheritance tax exposure, and possibly your estate planning priorities in ways that are worth sitting down to think through properly.

If a win this month has prompted those kinds of questions, getting advice on financial planningestate planning, or inheritance tax planning is a sensible starting point. The prize itself may be tax-free, but how you deploy it going forward is a different matter entirely.

For the Southampton bondholders who did not see their number come up this time, the draw simply resets for September. Some of August’s local winners had bonds dating back to 2006 and 2007. Others bought theirs earlier this year. ERNIE runs each draw fresh, with no memory of previous results and no preference for long-standing holders.

The only thing you can do is stay in.
